WHAT IS HERITAGE?

We can define it as the set of assets (tangible as well as intangible) that have to do with the culture of a people, nation, city, society…

WHY PRESERVING HERITAGE?

Preservation is a method of not losing the values of cultural identity. As architects
we must also think about the value of the good on which to intervene before deciding the type of intervention, as when we make changes we erase the memory that brang a certain building and it’s not easy to go back.

WHAT SHOULD BE PRESERVED?

As architects, we must respect every aspect of the space: the matter, construction techniques, shapes and dimensions, colors, materials and textures, character and the use, environment, and of course its meaning. It is not just about the physical aspect, but also about its meaning and values.

But, how do we do that?

We should catalog and protect the historical goods. We can also help on the preservation, the maintenance, the reparation of goods, the renovation (mainly of buildings) if needed, the musealization of goods in order to preserve them and also, teaching how important the cultural heritage is.
